Written at 4:30 AM during a bout of minor insomnia. It's so easy to run away. It's much easier than wanting to stay and face it all. All of our sin. It's so much easier to curl up in our beds, turn off the TV, cancel our news subscription, and block out the world. It's easier to pretend that racism, sexism, class differences, poverty, rape, and war don't exist. It's much harder to admit that it does, and that we just don't care. As I wrestle with what has happened these past few weeks, I can only become more aware that our world is fallen and it's because of us. We are the problem. We cannot save or fix ourselves. It's become harder to stay positive all the time and to not feel like everything is hopeless. It's become harder to pray for peace instead of retribution. But, God. He knows our hearts. He knows our desire to have this world re-shifted back into it's core design. So, he tells us to let go. To let go of our control of our lives and the lives of those around us. To let go of the desire to have full control over everything we create. To let go of our notion of what's deemed to be "good enough" and not perfect, because only He is. His hands shaped the very continents we live on. His very breath fills our lungs, pumps our hearts, and gives us life. With that much intricate intimacy and knowledge about not only this world, but the very nature of who we are, who is the one who should have full control? I dare to say it's God. Many will disagree, but if evidence shows anything of our work, then we really need to reconsider. We will always fail. We will always draw lines that create an "us" and "them". We will always create enemies and desire wrath over forgiveness and grace. That's what we create when weare in control. But, God. When He is in control, everything is beautiful. Everything fulfills it's purpose to it's fullest potential. Everything lives and breathes and rests in harmony. Everything exudes love, grace, kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, mercy, and self control. Even though the world is broken and fallen, He has not abandoned us. He is still beside us. He still loves us. He still waits for us. He's waiting for me and you to give him full control of everything. What are we waiting for?
